Page rank is the numerical value that represents how important a page is on the web.
Working of PR
- Bad incoming links dont have impact on your web page rank.
- PR is not considered based on backlink relevancy or backlink duration.
- Content is not taken into account, while considering PR.
- To have a overall good PR, the PR of each inbound link is also important.
- PR is calculated for each page individually.
- It doesnt range from o to 10. Rather it is a floating point number.
- It is calculated based on logarithmic scale.
- Google update page rank every few months.
The basic formula for calculating Google page rank is
PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/c(t1) + ......+PR(tn)/c(tn))
Where,
PR(A) - Pages linking to the page A.
t1-tn - Pages linkink to page A.
c - No of outbound links a page have.
d - Damping factor -> 0.85
You can use the following rule of thumb to rate webpages based on their Google PR:
0 – Black listed or new websites or webpages
1 – Very low PR (not much use getting linked from such pages)
2 – Low PR (not much use getting linked from such pages)
3 – Low-average PR (not a very good linking opportunity, but still go ahead with a links exchange)
4 – Average PR (most running sites fall in this category – exchange links)
5 – Good PR (This could be a good links exchange)
6 – Very good PR (Exchanging links with this site would be like finding a rare gem)
7 and above – An excellent opportunity to get linked. Almost never comes for free.
